Salomon X Ultra 3 Low GTX Hiking Shoes
Salomon makes some top-notch footwear, and the GTX Hiking shoes are no exception. The outsole pattern on these light trekkers uses two types of rubber to help grip terrain more aggressively, and they have increased flex to keep your feet happy for more miles. And you can trust that they are plenty comfortable. If you had to pick one pair of hiking shoes for almost any adventure, these would be the one.
Hestra Heated Liner Mitten (or gloves)
Long gone are the days when those of us with cold extremities must suffer through frigid days in the outdoors. There are now plenty of options for boosting your temperature, and Hestra’s heated mitten liners are one of the best out there. They have three heat settings, and on the low setting they can last for up to ten hours. That’s a full day of freezing cold adventures. One big “gotcha” is that the electronic components may interfere with avalanche transceivers. Buyer beware if you are into touring. And yes, these are quit spendy, but can you really put a price on personal comfort? Santa says no, no you cannot.
Tailwind Nutrition Bundles
We have reviewed some of the Tailwind offerings previously and come away happy. If you’ve got an endurance racer, backcountry skier, biker or someone who just needs some tasty power in their life, Tailwind is a great gift. The company offers bundles that feature a specific product in an array of flavors (like the Recovery Bundle) or a mix (like the Best Sellers Bundle). Stuff one of these into a stocking and keep the adventurer in your life fully fueled.
Fenix PD35 Tactical Flashlight
Blind them with generosity…and 1700 lumens! If you really want to brighten up someone’s holiday season, this everyday carry/tactical flashlight by Fenix will do the job and then some. It features five levels of light plus a strobe feature, is pocket-sized, waterproof (IP68 rating), and comes with a rechargeable battery. It’s chock-full of features, including a toothed strike bezel in case you need to ward off any pesky vamps, lycanthropes, or rowdy elves. Visit them online to learn more and see the full lineup of lighting.
Rite in the Rain Journals
Got a real wordsmith on your shopping list? A Rite in the Rain journal will allow them to jot those important notes down no matter what the weather is doing. The company motto is “Defying Mother Nature”, and while I find that to be a risky proposition, I can’t deny that they are succeeding. I have been using these journals on all my outdoor trips for years, and no mix of rain, sleet, snow, sand or mud can wreck them. They will be tough enough for the Bill Shakespeare in your life, no doubt! Check out all the options and throw in one of their pens for good measure.
