Ready. Set. Grab the Supercollar! This revolutionary dog collar and retractable leash is a great addition to the dog accessory market. For the past month Lucy, my german short hair pointer/blue heeler mix, has been putting the Supercollar to the test.
I’m not going to lie, I thought this leash would snap as soon as Lucy began tugging. She is 60 pounds of muscle, who lives and breathes by routine, at least one walk a day around the neighborhood before I head to work. The first day I buckled the supercollar to her neck she didn’t know what to think. Her normal leash is about 6 feet long, while the Supercollar’s retractable leash is about 3 feet long. At first she didn’t want to go potty on the leash because she couldn’t get enough distance from me to do her “ business.” Of course like all creatures of habit she got used to it, and now when I pull out the collar, she jumps up and down, excited for her walk.
Let me give some background into the Supercollar history. Supercollar was designed for medium to large dogs, up to 90 pounds, with a retractable leash made of steel coated cables that have a combined break strength of 200 pounds. The lead is 3 feet long and a stainless steel toggle locks it in place when the leash is not in use. When you want to use the collar, you twist the toggle, and pull out the handle. This collar was perfect for when Lucy and I walked to the local dog park by the house to go play ball. I didn’t have to worry about holding onto the leash when it was time for her to run and I was able to grab her quickly when it was time to go home.
My only concern about the collar is it is a bit bulky, and looks kind of like a bark collar. But besides that, it’s a great collar for a dog that goes on walks everyday. In fact, Lucy tugs less on this leash then she does on her longer leashes. This is probably because a behaviorist suggested to the developers of Supercollar that a 3 foot lead length would keep dogs in check.
Overall I think Supercollar is perfect for dogs and their humans. It’s convenient, you spend less time looking for the leash, and it’s safer for both you and your dog because you have better control over your pets safety.
