One of our favorite ski companies, Salt Lake City based Voile, has long been misunderstood. They have a French name, therefore people assumed they are a French company. But no, they are American, headquartered in Utah, and their awesome skis and backcountry gear is made in West Valley City. So to put to rest any misconceptions about their name or history, Voile released this hilarious skit, “Voile, French for Made in America.”
This promotion ran over and over again before the screening of the new Powderwhore Productions flick, “Elevation,” and we were so amused, we had to share it.
Here’s how Voile eloquently explains the motivation behind the video:
“Since 1980, there has been a misunderstanding that we are a French company. It might be that fancy accent over over the e, or maybe the over abundance of ‘Merican mispronunciation, but truth is, we’ve cut our teeth in the Wasatch Mountains on the lightweight backcountry gear we make right here in Salt Lake City, Utah, long before many of you were splitin’ peas and ham in your diapers. With a little help from the folks at Powderwhore Productions, we made this edit to clear up the confusion. So why do we have a French name? Shoot, Wally the founder told us to save that ditty for a windy day.”
So there you have it.
