Maybe it’s counter-intuitive to go indoors for a convention about outdoor recreation, but with an event the size of the Get Outdoors Expo, a place like the massive South Towne Expo Center in Sandy is needed. The Get Outdoors Expo is a celebration of outdoor recreation for people inspired to get outside, and it all happens on Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th.
Ever wanted to get into the Outdoor Retailer Market in Salt Lake City, but couldn’t because it’s not open to the public? Then the Get Outdoors Expo is your chance to attend an outdoor recreation convention that is just for you, the outdoor enthusiast.
Hundreds of vendors will line the aisles of the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, Utah to exhibit their wares. You’ll have a chance to pick up new outdoor gear for mountain biking, cycling, camping, rock climbing, paddling sports, running and more. Even if you’re not in the market for new gear, it’s always fun to peruse the latest gadgets and tech.
Some vendors include Suunto, Eco Shelter, The Salt Lake Surf Company, Steep and Cheap, Vestpac, Black Rhino, ODEE World and much, much more.
But just like a good convention, the Get Outdoors Expo will also have outdoor-related seminars, activities, and demos. In fact, the demos sound like the most fun aspect of this shindig, especially the Get Outdoors Peddle Fest.
Utah’s top BMX riders will take over the convention as Rob Wise will attempt to break the world record Bunny Hop. Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, who is a five-time National Champion Stunt Cyclist, will be performing tricks on the Main Stage. And the 5050 BMX race team, composed of X Games and Dew Tour athletes, will demonstrate gravity defying stunts on the Freestyle Ramps throughout the Expo.
Into rock climbing? Then the Vertical Zone has your name on it. Competitions, demos, giveaways and games will happen around the indoor rock climbing walls that will be set up. You’ll be able to try out rock climbing and bouldering problems, and even compete to see how you stack up amongst your climbing peers. In addition, The Front Climbing Club will be hosting a Semi-Pro competition on the UBC Pro Tour walls during the expo on Saturday. The athletes will be competing for a $3,000 prize, so it will be fun to watch.
You’ll also be able to try out slacklining. The Gibbons Slackline Pro Team will be on the convention floor on both Friday and Saturday to showcase the sport, and help everyone give the slack line a try!
