The Get Outdoors Expo made its debut over the weekend at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, and it was full of outdoor businesses, vendors, demonstrations, presentations, workshops, and new product launches all under one roof. There was a ton of cool stuff to look at and do, so here are some highlights from the first ever Get Outdoors Expo.
The Get Outdoors Expo had over 100 exhibitors showcasing their products, as well as the Get Outdoors Peddle Fest, Mountain Survival Zone, Utah Hiking Trails Exhibit, the 50/50 BMX Team, Dutch oven cooking classes and more. There were also some new innovations from Utah companies that are worth a second look.
The PeddleFest main stage was an awesome place to hang out as demonstrations of gravity-defying tricks happened every hour. From BMX to Gibbons Slacklines, to Jeremy Vanshoonhoven showing off his amazing bike skills, the main stage was the center of attention.
Gibbons Slacklines was on hand giving demos and letting everyone try out their balancing skills. Seems like kids were particularly drawn to it.
Local retailers were set up at the Get Outdoors Expo, including PlanetGear.com, where people could register for the outdoor gear discount site. If you haven’t signed up yet for an opportunity to shop for outdoor gear that’s up to 70% off, check out PlanetGear.com right now.
One of the most innovative items found at the Get Outdoors Expo is the VestPac. The VestPac is described as a, “gadget pack for every activity.” Essentially, it’s a low-profile pack that you can use to keep essential items on hand right on your chest. It also features a hydration reservoir on the back. Seems ideal for photographers, fishermen, and mountain emergency personnel. For more, visit www.vestpac.com
Another new item comes from Rockit Fuel, a Provo, Utah-based energy bar company that just launched this month. Among an already over-saturated energy bar market, Rokit Fuel hits the scene with what they’re calling a whole foods energy bar. Rokit Fuel’s Bernell Taylor says his bars and cereals have far more whole grains in them than other leading bars. I tasted four different flavors and each was delicious. Rokit Fuel is totally worth checking out. www.rokitfuel.com
Utah sure is full of innovators and inventors, and the EZ STO bike rack is proof. This cool gadget lets out stow your bike upright on a wall with just a simple clamp that goes around the front rim. Craig Bleazard from Grantsville, Utah, invented the EZ STO, which will make more floor space in a garage if there are several bikes around that need to be stowed. They’re working on getting them in retail stores now, or you can visit them at www.ezsto.com.
The Get Outdoors Expo had a lot of offer, and we look forward to going back next year to celebrate the outdoors and see what new products will be coming out from Utah-based companies. Keep checking back to www.thegoexpo.com
