Fancy yourself a military type who loves to test your physical and mental capabilities? Ever have a hankering to train like elite Special Forces soldiers? Then you may want to check out the GORUCK Challenge, which is happening in Salt Lake City on June 4th.
The GORUCK Challenge is a team event, where participants complete a course that goes through the city for 15 to 20 miles. The course will test people’s metal and physical capabilities, while they carry a backpack filled with 20 pounds of bricks. The course lasts 8-10 hours and begins at 1 a.m.
GORUCK describes the challenge as, “not for everyone, but successful Challenge takers include a broad range of adventure seekers.” They go on to add that GORUCK is, “not for reasonable people” and it is “an unreasonable undertaking” where you’ll have to “sign a death waiver.” Still sound like fun?
Aside from testing our physical capabilities in the outdoors (which is what we all do whenever we climb, bike or hike,) the one thing that really makes GORUCK stand apart is how they don’t tell you anything. The course, the activities, the location, and the obstacles are all kept secret until you show up. Best of all, they recommend training for GORUCK in the following manner – drink a beer.
Beer, according to GORUCK, is, “the latest in advanced cellular repair technology” and is the “official drink of the GORUCK Challenge.” Clearly the GORUCK Challenge is a serious challenge that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Now it sounds fun, doesn’t it?
