Jetboil is as common in the backcountry these days as packs and tents. It seems the company has become the de-facto cook system for backpackers and even car campers because of the amazingly short amount of time it takes to boil water. But there has always been a nagging problem: Jetboil is a cook system for one. Either everybody in the group packed one, or you had to wait your turn to eat dinner until your friends finished boiling their own water. Well, that’s all in the past as Jetboil revealed their new Sumo Group Cooking System at the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.
The Sumo is exactly as the name implies – a really big Jetboil. The thing boils 60 ounces of water at a time, meaning there will always be enough water for a group of three to use for freeze-dried dinners or morning coffee and oatmeal. Even cooler, is the Sumo boils all that water in 4-minutes, 15 seconds flat.
Aside from being bigger, the Sumo sports all the usual Jetboil features that make it so great. Pair it up with the new Sumo Companion Cook Set, and you’ve got a backcountry kitchen to be proud of.
The Jetboil Sumo will be available spring of 2012 in both regular and titanium versions. The Sumo Companion Cook Set will also make its debut this spring.
