The end of February and beginning of March will belong to splitboarders in the Wasatch. The 2015 edition of Wasatch Splitfest goes down February 26 to March 1 and it will be full of raffles, backcountry snowboard movies, gear demos, clinics, and of course, splitboarding.
Splitfest starts out at on Thursday, February 26 at Brewvies Cinema Pub where participants get to hang out, drink, grab some food and meet fellow splitboarders. There will be demo gear to check out, presentations of splitboard adventures from around the world, and a huge raffle with all proceeds going to support the Utah Avalanche Center.
On Friday, February 27, it’s time to tour. Everyone will meet at the Big Cottonwood Canyon lower lot at 8:30 and head up into the mountains for some skinning and snowboarding in the Wasatch backcountry. There will also be clinics about splitboarding and avalanche safety.
Friday night, the festivities head back to Salt Lake at Wasatch Touring (702 E. 100 S.) for the premiere of “White Waves,” a powdersurfing movie.
On Saturday, February 28, the backcountry beckons again. The crew will again meet at the Big Cottonwood Canyon lower lot for more splitboarding. Pray for snow! That night there will be another special event (TBD).
Finally, on Sunday, March 1, you better hope your legs are still functioning as more touring in the Wasatch is on the docket. Meet at BCC lower lot at 8:30.
