Backcountry Magazine is coming to Alta Ski Area on March 11-12 for their Backcountry Basecamp tour.
The Backcountry Basecamp is an excellent way to see what’s new with the backcountry skiing and splitboarding scene. Backcountry Magazine staff set up a huge yurt and inside show off the latest gear including skis, splitboards, skins, shovels, beacons, probes, airbag packs and more. Plus, Scott Sports will be there demoing their newest technical apparel.
Of course organizers would be remiss if they didn’t include education in a backcountry event. Avalanche professionals and educators will be on hand conducting safety demos, and will host avalanche classes each day. Guides from Utah Mountain Adventures will take participants on backcountry tours around Alta, while teaching about safe travel techniques along the way.
But the main event is the big party and raffle at the yurt on Saturday, at 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Wasatch Backcountry Rescue. These parties are legendary, so you don’t want to miss it.
The Backcountry Basecamp yurt will be set up at Alta’s Wildcat Base next to the Goldminer’s Daughter lodge.
Below is a schedule of events (identical for both Saturday and Sunday).
