The Leadville Trail 100, known as one of the most grueling mountain bike races in the world, is getting the big screen treatment in the new documentary, “Race Across the Sky.” Imagine mountain biking for 100 miles and climbing to an elevation of 14,000 feet in Colorado’s mountains, and you can form an idea of what it’s like to compete in the race.
Luckily for us gear heads in Utah, we can experience the race from the relative comfort of out theater seats when “Race Across the Sky” screens in Park City on Thursday, March 18 at the Jim Santy Auditorium. Rebecca Rusch, three-time reigning 24-Hour Solo Mountain Biking World Champion, and Leadville Trail 100 Women’s Champion, is hosting the event.
The film was never intended to go on tour in mountain towns, but sold-out screenings in larger cities, along with demands from mountain bikers across the Mountain West, forced Rebecca to take the movie on the road.
“Race Across the Sky” gives viewers a trail-side look at the intensity of the event, the competition between elite racers, and the amazing commitment of the support teams along a course that winds through spectacular mountain scenery.
Presented by Specialized, each stop of the movie tour will be a fundraiser for the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) and its local chapter clubs. There will also be a raffle with gear from tour sponsors.
Tickets will be available before the show and at the door. There will be a pre-show party with food and drinks where you can talk to Rebecca, who will be there for a meet-and-greet. The party starts at 5:30 at White Pine Touring, 1790 Bonanza Drive in Park City. The event then moves to the Jim Santy Auditorium at 1255 Park Avenue.
