The Outdoor Retailer 2011 Winter Market isn’t always just about the gear. A lot of events to benefit charity and good causes have found homes among the outdoor community. This year, one such event will rock Outdoor Retailer to raise funds for the war against cancer around the world, and to empower women who work in the outdoor industry. The Love Hope Strength Foundation and OIWC Fundraiser, sponsored by Wolverine, will go down at The Depot on Friday, January 21 at 8:30PM.
The show features Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, a five-piece band from Vermont described as, “a modern-day version of Tina Turner stroking the microphone in a spangled mini-dress while fronting the Rolling Stones circa Sticky Fingers.” Sounds like a rollicking good time to me.
This fundraising party is being hosted by Wolverine, a manufacturer of outdoor footwear. All ticket sales to the show will benefit the Love Hope Strength Foundation as well as the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition. Ticket can be purchased at the Wolverine booth (#36181) on the Salt Palace Convention Center floor during Outdoor Retailer show hours.
Now a little info about the charities that will benefit from the show: The Love Hope Strength Foundation has a slogan that reads: “Saving Lives one Concert at a Time.” That pretty much describes an organization which uses the power of music to build and support cancer centers around the world, build awareness of global cancer needs, and build international marrow databases through the “Get on the List” campaign.

The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition’s mission is to “equip, educate and support women in the outdoor industries to recognize their professional goals.” Their vision is to “seek equality for, and provide power, influence, and opportunity to women in the outdoor industries, to increase their influence and recognition, and to generate champions to inspire other women” by promoting the “views and interests of women engaged in or impassioned by the outdoor, snow sports, action sports, and bicycling industries.”
